Ministry of Culture of Spain — General Directorate of Cultural Rights
Research report for the Directorate-General for Cultural Rights of the Ministry of Culture of Spain. The study analyzes the presence, working conditions, and participation of migrant and/or racialized women in various areas of the cultural sector, highlighting structural inequalities and providing recommendations to move toward a more fair and diverse culture.

Challenge:

To analyze the inequalities affecting migrant and racialized women in the Spanish cultural ecosystem, characterized by labor precariousness, administrative barriers, racial discrimination, and underrepresentation in decision-making spaces. The challenge was to generate situated knowledge that would allow for understanding these dynamics and contribute to the development of more equitable cultural policies.

Proposal:

The report combines applied research, sectoral analysis, and participatory methodologies developed by a team of migrant and/or racialized researchers. Through dialogue with professionals from diverse backgrounds in the cultural field, the document identifies patterns of exclusion and proposes strategic priorities regarding cultural rights: access, participation, creation, and governance. The work emphasizes the need for disaggregated data, institutional accountability, and collective strategies to transform the structures of racism, sexism, and classism present in the sector.
